I was living two blocks south of the World Trade Center. On the morning of Sept 11th I was debating with Colin whether we should both skip work and stay in bed... but sensible, conservative me decided that I couldnt do that, so we left for work. Colin went to mid-town and I trundled off to work at the very east end of Wall St. Then it all happened. Cocooned in the office, although my colleagues and I were "there" in a very real sense, we could have been a thousand miles away watching it on TV like the rest of the world....
At approximately 1pm on being told to evacuate out of south Manhattan, I first returned to my apartment building (Liberty Apartments on Washington St) to recover some immediate possessions. I took some photos from the apartment and again as I walked up to another office in mid-town.
Ten days later I returned to extract the rest of my personal belongings.
